The Dispatching is an industrial building located next to a shopping centre in Louvroil. Built in 1960 as an ore batching silo to serve the USINOR plant, it was closed in the 1970s and converted into a nightclub before becoming an industrial wasteland. Today, an artistic project funded by the Cité éducative HLNM and run by idem+arts is bringing together young people from neighbourhood centres and schools, as well as cultural and artistic structures, to create a joint work inspired by the history of the Dispatching and the industrial heritage of the Sambre. The project includes the creation of a vinyl record with a soundtrack and a record sleeve, the production of a documentary, a performance with a discotheque atmosphere, and an outing to the FRAC Grand-Large in Dunkirk for the Art and Industry Triennial. The issues addressed will include the reasons why industrialists settled in and left the Sambre, and the history of the Dispatching centre.
