L’ombre de la terre is a long-term project that questions contemporary knowledge production chains. After a first chapter devoted to the means of knowledge production, Sarah Ritter presents her new project on the land and sea floor, and more specifically on mining. While photography has played a part in reducing the earth to a calculable, quantifiable, homogenous and undifferentiated space, Sarah Ritter is using the medium from the appropriation of photographic archives to field shots, in an approach that is both critical and dreamlike. This exhibition provides an opportunity to compare a selection of works from the national archives of the world of work, from which Sarah Ritter drew her inspiration for this new project. Her series of images, with their evocative qualities, plunge us into different universes, from the depths of the earth to the skies, revealing the impact of land-based exploitation on our environment.
