La chaleur du noir
From 17 June to 14 October 2023
Opening: Thursday 15 June at 6.00 pm
Curators: Valérie Boubert and Marc Lasseaux
The exhibition is based around the theme of black, combining in the phrase “La chaleur du noir” a paradox, even a contradiction, between representations of so-called warm colours and the association of black, often perceived as a cold, even sepulchral colour in Western symbolism. The warmth of black represents both black and its many variations of burning materials, their iconoclastic uses and perceptions, and the warmth of bodies in partial representations, playing on fetishes and deconstructed forms.
The heat of black, the heat of asphalt, a history of the modernity of a material derived from petroleum, whose imaginary and practical territory Lucie Marchand revisits. Around this central work, the other two artists will be combining works in black, drawing and sculpture.
Yosra Mojtahedi tackles the question of the body: the masculine and the feminine, where the artist blurs the usual boundaries of their representations, introducing an ambivalent plant.
Fabrice Cazenave will be presenting his work with charcoal, and even the charcoal itself, the combustion of different plants that he has experimented with, enriching the representation of this charcoal tool.
