As part of the Resonance film screenings of the Art & Industry Triennial 2023, the Maison d’Arrêt de Dunkerque is screening the film Hugues et les vagues by Ariane Michel as part of Le souffle, l’air et l’eau.

In Brittany in 2015, Ariane Michel initiated a “coastal collective exhibition”, which she also saw as a place for filming, where the aim was to subject the artistic gesture to contact with the elements, particularly the sea. This film is the result of a collaboration with Hugues Reip, who created an installation called Wavers (2015-2018), a garden proliferating in a puddle of water between the rocks, which was washed away by the first tide. Ariane Michel, in turn, observes the work’s fate in the midst of the elements. Following the flowers to the bottom of the waves, she has chosen to become part of the landscape, the better to let us feel its presence.
