Presentation of the materials from a new film project, by Susan Schuppli, Signals from Svalbard
During the closing weekend of Chaleur humaine, Susan Schuppli will give a lecture on another of her projects, focusing on the Norwegian and Russian archipelago of Svalbard, an island network of fjords, mountains and glaciers located around 1,000 kilometres from the North Pole. This archipelago is not only at the centre of climate change issues, but has also become an entirely technological landscape, populated by radio transmission towers, antenna arrays, satellite ground control stations, radar installations, meteorological instruments and fibre optic cables. By highlighting the technological transformation of the Svalbard landscape, the researcher draws our attention to a representation of the Arctic.
