“The Shadow of the Earth” is a long-term project that questions the chains of production of contemporary knowledge. Following a first chapter dedicated to the means of knowledge production, Sarah Ritter presents her new project focusing on land and maritime resources, particularly mining extraction. While photography has contributed to reducing the earth to a calculable, quantifiable, homogeneous, and undifferentiated space, Sarah Ritter engages with the medium through the appropriation of photographic archives and on-site photography, in a critical and dreamlike approach. This exhibition offers the opportunity to juxtapose a selection of pieces from the National Archives of the World of Work, which inspired Sarah Ritter for this new project. Her series of evocative images immerse us in different realms, from the depths of the earth to the skies, revealing the impact of land exploitation on our environment.
