Pierre Alechinsky

The painter and engraver Pierre Alechinsky (Brussels, Belgium, 1927) lives and works in Bougival. The spirit of Expressionism and Surrealism is present in his work. After studying at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture et des Arts Visuels de La Cambre in Brussels, Pierre Alechinsky quickly became one of the major players in the post-war Belgian art world. He was also a key player in the CoBrA movement (1948-1951).
His first major exhibition was held in 1955 at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. In 1958, his work was also exhibited at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London. In 1960 he exhibited at the Belgian Pavilion at the XXX Venice Biennale.
