Mireille Gros
1954, Bâle, Suisse
Mireille Gros (Aarau, Switzerland, 1954) lives and works between Paris and Basel. She graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Bâle in Switzerland (1980) and then continued her education at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York (1981) under the guidance of Vito Acconci and Hans Haacke. Many solo exhibitions have been dedicated to her in Switzerland, and her works are also part of important public collections in Switzerland.
In her artistic practice, Mireille Gros takes on an invented nature as her subject. She creates drawings of fictional plants that over time have become her botanical friendships. The resulting drawings portray each plant with its own unique character, as if they possessed individual personalities. Mireille Gros also works with the mediums of photography and video.
