Joseph Beuys

1921-1986,

Joseph Beuys (Krefeld, Germany, 1921 – Düsseldorf, Germany, 1986) was a German artist. He enrolled at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts after a traumatic youth during World War II. His artistic production consisted of paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, and performances. It was in the 1960s that the artist emerged on the global art scene, and he became part of the Fluxus group in America.

In 1969, he participated in the iconic exhibition “When Attitudes Become Form” at the Kunsthalle in Bern, which brought him international recognition.

In 1980, he co-founded the ecological political party Bündnis 90/Die Grünen.

His works can be found in numerous public collections worldwide.
