Gustav Metzger

Gustav Metzger (Nuremberg, Germany, 1926 – London, United Kingdom, 2017) was a German artist known for developing the concept of Auto-Destructive Art. He worked predominantly in the United Kingdom and was also known for his political activism. His art form aimed to provoke social change and sought to reflect a social and political system that, in his view, was moving indifferently towards total erasure. His works are held in numerous public collections and have been exhibited internationally.
