Chris Burden

Chris Burden (Boston, 1946 – Topanga Canyon, United States, 2015) was an American artist. He graduated in art from the University of California in 1971. Since then, his reputation as a performance artist began to grow, marked by a series of controversial performances in which the idea of personal danger as an artistic expression was central.
From 1975, he performed fewer live performances and entered a period of creating installations and objects that dealt with science and politics. The American artist was a key figure in contemporary art, and his performances and sculptures pushed the boundaries of what constitutes plastic art. His work is part of significant museum collections worldwide.
