Caroline Achaintre

After studying at the Kunsthochschule in Halle, Caroline Achaintre (Toulouse, 1969) continued her professional career in London at Chelsea College of Art and Design and Goldsmiths, University of London. She currently lives and works in London.


Caroline Achaintre uses a variety of materials and media to create textile sculptures, wall hangings, drawings and paintings. Her work is strongly inspired by German Expressionism, post-war British sculpture and Primitivism, often revealing anthropomorphic forms. Her work can be found in major public collections, including the Tate Britain in London, and in France at the CAPC, Bordeaux; Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Paris; Centre national des arts plastiques, Paris; FRAC Aquitaine, Bordeaux, and FRAC Champagne-Ardenne, Reims. In addition to group shows, Caroline Achaintre has had several solo exhibitions, including at Kunstmuseum Ravensburg/Centre d’art Pasquart, Switzerland (2021-2022), CAPC, Bordeaux (2020-2021), MO.CO, Montpellier (2019), Belvedere 21, Vienna, Austria (2019), De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-sea, Great Britain (2018), FRAC Champagne-Ardenne, Reims (2017), BALTIC, Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, Great Britain (2016), Tate Britain, London (2015) and Castello di Rivoli, Turin, Italy (2013).
